SAVE A TREE, SAVE US MONEY, GET INSTANT INFORMATION—READ THE NEWSLETTER ONLINE. With this new web page format, it will be even easier and faster for us to post new information online. Hikes and work trips will be added/updated as soon as we get the info—no need to wait until the next newsletter! Plus there will be color photos, direct links to web pages, and some extra stuff that will not be in the normal newsletter. In an effort to cut down our mailing and printing costs (and save trees and oil), we are asking everyone to read the newsletter online here instead of receiving a hard copy mailed to them. You can always print out a copy if needed. If you would like to help out, and get your info as much as 2-3 weeks faster, send us an e-mail and tell us to remove you from the hard copy mail list. Then simply go online whenever you like to read the latest news, which will be updated throughout the month. If we do not hear from you, we will continue to mail a hard copy to you as always. IF YOU ARE READING THIS NEWSLETTER NOW ONLINE, PLEASE CONTINUE TO DO SO, and let us know to stop your hard copy from being mailed to you. Thanks!

E-MAIL LIST. If you would like to be reminded via e-mail of meetings and outings, or any other OHTA business (no SPAM), send a note to our Membership Chairman, Dean LaGrone, and you will be included on the e-mail list.

TRAIL MAINTENANCE

MAINTAINERS NOTE: There is lots of weed growth along the OHT and many dead trees down across the trail. Please get out and maintain your section as soon as you can this fall, and be sure to get your report in to Roy via snail or e-mail. We need to get the trail open and inviting for all fall hikers. Be sure to let Roy know of any special problem areas that need extra work and he will schedule a work trip for that area. Roy Senyard, 479–587–0200.

November 5. MAJOR TRAIL MAINENTANCE DAY!!! Much of the OHT in this section from Dockery Gap to White Rock Mountain has been lost due to dead trees allowing sunshine to bring on heavy weed growth - the trail is very difficult to find in many locations. It will take a giant effort on our part to get it back open again for fall and winter and spring hiking - WE NEED YOU! Meet at the Pack Rat Outdoor Center in Fayetteville at 6:45 am to carpool, or at Dockery Gap Trailhead at 8:00am. Bring lunch and water, tools will be provided. This section is in really bad shape due to the dead trees and weeds. If you would like to be a crew leader please e-mail Roy Senyard or call 479-587-0200. We are planning on having 4-5 crews on this section on this day, so we also need some crew leaders. We need as many volunteers as possible so give me a call or an e-mail and come see the difference one day can make. Tools will be provided and no work experience is necessary - just bring a pair of leather work gloves, and a daypack with water and lunch.

December 17. Maintenance work trip on OHT. Meet at Pack Rat at 6:45 am to carpool, or at USFS Cass Work Center, Hwy. 23 just north of Turner Bend at 8am. We will do maintenance from Ragtown Road to Fane Creek. Fjor more info and to sign up e-mail Roy Senyard or call 479-587-0200. Tools will be provided and no work experience is necessary - just bring a pair of leather work gloves, and a daypack with water and lunch.

CLUB MEETINGS

November 13, OHTA General Meeting in Springdale. To get to the meeting site, from Hwy. 71 B in Springdale turn EAST on Emma street, go several blocks, then turn LEFT/NORTH onto N. Main Street, then pull into the parking lot on the right behind the building (across from Shiloh Museum—there is a map on the web page here). We will have a great program given by Harry Harnish from Devil's Den State Park - he is the main guru there and will be able to tell us all sorts of great things about the park, and about all of the BATS who live there! We’ll start off with refreshments and social time at 7pm, with the meeting to follow at 7:30. E-mail OHTA or call 870–861–5536 for info.

December 11, OHTA General Meeting in Springdale. (there is a map on the web page here)). The program this month will be given by Tim Ernst, and he will show his two brand new slide programs - ARKANSAS PORTFOLIO II: SPECTACULAR NEW IMAGES FROM THE NATURAL STATE (all of the images from Tim's new book of the same name), and COLORADO ROCKY MOUNTAIN HIGH (images from an incredible wildflower display and fall color season this past year in Colorado - dedicated to John Denver). This will be the ONLY public showing of these two exciting programs in the Fayetteville-Springdale area this fall, so don't miss them! Tim will have all of his picture books, guidebooks, the new Arkansas 2006 Arkansas calendar, posters, prints, greeting cards, and screensavers - all available at sale prices both before and after the show. We will also have our elections for 2006 OHTA officers, plus pot luck refreshments beginning at 7pm - please bring a holiday treat for everyone to share. The goodies will be served and social time beginning at 7pm, with the meeting to follow at 7:30. E-mail OHTA or call 870–861–5536 for info. PLEASE NOTE - we welcome everyone to this meeting, so try to spread the word around about the programs, the refreshments, and our club!
