ICE DAMAGE UPDATES

A major ice storm hit the Arkansas Ozarks and OHT area on January 26-27, 2009. Many parts of the OHT were heavily damaged, but much of it was untouched. OHTA volunteer chain saw crews have put in more than 2,000 hours of difficult work and we are happy to report that in general the entire main section of the trail is OPEN - from Lake Ft. Smith to Woolum - YIPPIE!

*The forest service will not allow volunteers to work on the Sylamore Section of the OHT and so it remains closed.

You may still find downed trees and many limbs across the trail. If you encounter a long stretch with lots of serious damage please contact us ASAP - there have been other storms since January.
