OVERNIGHT FUN HIKE ON THE OUACHITA TRAIL, November 1-2. Section Six of the OT runs 17.1 miles from Hwy. 27 to Hwy. 298, and includes the scenic Irons Fork Creek (there are three trail shelters along the way). DAYHIKE THE LAKE FAYETTEVILLE TRAIL, November 5. Come on out in the middle of the week for this local hike around beautiful Lake Fayetteville, just over five miles of easy hiking. OHTA GENERAL MEETING, November 5th, 7pm, in the Memphis Room at the Jones Center in Springdale (social half-hour and refreshments from 6:30 - 7). Our program will be presented by Fayetteville pediatricians Dr. David Jackson and Dr. Terry Payton, and they will report on a recent wilderness medicine conference in Santa Fe. NOTE that we will be serving refreshments starting at 6:30, with the meeting and program to follow at 7. MAINTENANCE WORK TRIP ON THE OHT, Shores Lake Loop Trail, November 8. This is great trail but needs lots of work. DAYHIKES TO KINGS RIVER FALLS, GLORY HOLE, & HAWKSBILL CRAG, November 15. All of these are easy hikes to very scenic locations, and about six miles total distance. MAINTENANCE WORK TRIP ON THE OHT, December 13. Come join Roy Senyard for another day of volunteer work to maintain a section of the OHT that needs some help. He'll be camping at Haw Creek Falls Campground on Friday and Saturday nights (no work on Sunday though), or you can meet him at the Big Piney Trailhead at 9am Saturday. DAYHIKE ON THE BUFFALO RIVER TRAIL, December 20. This is a neat nine-mile stretch of the BRT from Walker Mountain to Ponca, and is rated medium to difficult. POLAR BEAR PLUNGE & HIKE, December 31/January 1. Come to the top of the world and spend New Year's camping at White Rock Mountain, then take a short dayhike the next day, and for the brave ones, a Polar Bear Plunge in a nearby swimming hole! DEER SEASONS. There will be lots of hunters in
the woods soon (the National Forest and Buffalo River are open to hunting,
but not State Parks). If you go hiking during the season it's a good idea
to wear an orange vest, and not act like a deer! Hunters are good neighbors,
and are welcome on trails.

ÝCome on out for a maintenance day on the new trail.Ý Several sections of the trail need to be widened, some erosion has created the need for some side-hilling and other repair work. ÝNo experience necessary! ÝThis is a good chance to learn the "hows" of maintaining a trail. ÝMeet at 9am at the Moccasin Spring Trailhead on Hwy 341 (Push Mountain Road/1.5 miles north of Hwy 14).
