DAYHIKES

March 10th, DAYHIKE TO THE SANDSTONE CASTLES, RICHLAND CREEK WILDERNESS. This is a unique sandstone bluff feature deep in the wilderness area that I first found more than 20 years ago while doing some photography for the forest service. The hike in along an old ridgetop roadbed is 2.5 miles and rated medium. We’ll have lunch inside the bluff and then decide how to return to the parking area—the easy way back (the way we came), or via a steep bushwhack down to a pair of historical grindstones and then out to Hill Cemetery (more difficult, making a roundtrip of more than six miles). This area is featured on page 72 in the new Arkansas Nature Lover’s Guidebook. E-mail Tim Ernst for more info and to sign up. Limited space. Pets are welcome!
